Thanks to our Whitehead PFA (Parent Faculty Assoc) 19 students won $15 gift certificates to our June Grassroots bookfair. One student from each homeroom was chosen by reading and recording the most minutes read this week in and out of school. Each Whitehead student was given a bookmark at the start of Reading Week and was encouraged to keep track of all the reading he/she did this week outside of school and inside school during the daily DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read time.) each student received a Reading Award and the gift certificate.

Canned food contest this week

Granite construction challenges the students at Whitehead to collect canned foods this week for the local food bank in a classroom contest. The class who brings in the highest percentage of cans per student wins. This year our students collected 867 cans of food. Mrs.Cameron's 5th/6th homeroom won this year with an average of 5.82 cans per student. Thanks to Granite Construction each student in her homeroom wins a $15.00 gift certificate to spend at our Grassroots bookfair that will be held the last week of school in our JWES school library.

Students collecting the cans each morning and tallying up the numbers.

Each student in the winning homeroom received a certificate which is also good for $15  at our bookfair in June.

14th annual Granite Day at Whitehead

Granite Construction of Sparks brought Granite Day to the students of Whitehead for the 14th year in a row. With hard hats on , the K-6th grade students spent the day moving from learning station to learning station.
Outside they learn about the big equipment used and get to sit in the driver's seat for a different view.

Inside students learned about air quality, water conservation, safety equipment, building materials and some got to learn how a complete project goes from start to finish. The Students hear how many things they learn in their school classrooms, like math and science , are being used everyday at Granite Construction to make our community a great place.

The students teachers and Granite Construction employees had a great day of learning together !
