Whitehead students in DRV-SAFE commercials

16 Whitehead students worked with Trooper Chuck Allen , Fox 11 television, NV Safe Routes to Schools and the DRV SFE campaign for over 3 hours to put together commercial spots that are now airing daily on Chanel 11 television. Our students are teaching the Washoe County community with reminders about seatbelt safety and pedestrian safety. Great work !

Successful Shot Clinic at Whitehead ES

This past week 75 Whitehead students received their TDap and/or flu shot/mist here at school. All students that are 11 years and older will need their TDap shot before entering 7th grade.
A big thanks to our school nurse, Mrs. Freier , and many of her nursing colleagues who made this clinic a  smooth success . Students were supported throughout this process and all were happy to receive a lollipop once they completed their turn.
We are never too old for lollipops!

Holiday music fills the air at Whitehead

The choir kicked off the show.

The orchestra music was beautiful.

The band was amazing.

The 6th graders have shown persistance and hard work this first semester, thanks to our 3 wonderful music teachers. How far they've grown as musicians in just one semester. The result of their work was beautiful music to perform for our school family. Thanks to the many family members who filled the audience.

Recess during Winter weather means Whitehead students need to dress warm

The winter weather and temperatures are arriving this week. It is our goal to get the children outside for recess each day as long as the weather allows. Recess will be outside unless there are :
1. Temperatures that are 10 degrees or colder
2. Severe winds
3. Heavy snow or rain
4. Ice covering the playground in a dangerous manner
5. Other circumstances that would not allow for a safe recess time

Administration will make the decision as close to the lunch hour so as to use the most updated local weather data.

In order to stay warm and be able to enjoy recess time students should wear the following winter clothing for recess each day:
1. A Winter coat
2. Hat/hood/scarf
3. Gloves/mittens

And once the snow falls students may choose to wear :
4. Boots
5. Snow pants

Thank you for working with your child to help him/her be prepared for a warm recess time each day.

Whitehead families support each other this holiday

The students of Whitehead collected over 1,000 items of food during the month of November. Each grade was assigned a specific food item, ex: Kinder brought in Mac & Cheese and 6th graders had to bring in boxes desert mixes. The class at each grade level that brought in the most items has earned an extra PE class at the park. The students then sorted the food into boxes that make up a complete Thanksgiving meal plus some extra treats as well. The PFA provided turkeys and a roasting pan complete each food box. Thanks to the support and collaboration of our entire school community 17 of our Whitehead families will be enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving meal during this school vacation. The true sign of a family is knowing that when just one of us is lonely, or hungry then we all feel that stress. It's amazing how much support comes together when each person gives just a little! I am so thankful for the love and support of our Whitehead School community, we have shown again that we truly are a family ! Happy Thanksgiving !

The bar graph in the main hallway shows the number of food items each class donated this November.

17 families eached I received a food box and a turkey this holiday
