Recess during Winter weather means Whitehead students need to dress warm

The winter weather and temperatures are arriving this week. It is our goal to get the children outside for recess each day as long as the weather allows. Recess will be outside unless there are :
1. Temperatures that are 10 degrees or colder
2. Severe winds
3. Heavy snow or rain
4. Ice covering the playground in a dangerous manner
5. Other circumstances that would not allow for a safe recess time

Administration will make the decision as close to the lunch hour so as to use the most updated local weather data.

In order to stay warm and be able to enjoy recess time students should wear the following winter clothing for recess each day:
1. A Winter coat
2. Hat/hood/scarf
3. Gloves/mittens

And once the snow falls students may choose to wear :
4. Boots
5. Snow pants

Thank you for working with your child to help him/her be prepared for a warm recess time each day.

T-Shirt design winners from bully prevention month

Whitehead students spent the month of October learning about how we can each do something to prevent bullying. The students each created a t-shirt design which hung in our hallways this month. A few students from each grade were recognized with a pizza party for their unique, creative and or catchy t-shirt design. Check them out below:

Whitehead families support each other this holiday

The students of Whitehead collected over 1,000 items of food during the month of November. Each grade was assigned a specific food item, ex: Kinder brought in Mac & Cheese and 6th graders had to bring in boxes desert mixes. The class at each grade level that brought in the most items has earned an extra PE class at the park. The students then sorted the food into boxes that make up a complete Thanksgiving meal plus some extra treats as well. The PFA provided turkeys and a roasting pan complete each food box. Thanks to the support and collaboration of our entire school community 17 of our Whitehead families will be enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving meal during this school vacation. The true sign of a family is knowing that when just one of us is lonely, or hungry then we all feel that stress. It's amazing how much support comes together when each person gives just a little! I am so thankful for the love and support of our Whitehead School community, we have shown again that we truly are a family ! Happy Thanksgiving !

The bar graph in the main hallway shows the number of food items each class donated this November.

Whitehead students in a PSA commercial

Whitehead students join with NVHP and Fox TV to film a public service announcement for Northern NV. Some of our 3rd-6th graders where chosen to help spread the word about seat belt safety and pedestrian safety. Trooper Chuck Allen spent time talking with our students about how to stay safe when in the car and when crossing the seat. What a wonderful way for our students to help keep our community safe !

4th graders learn about local Paiute tribe

Members of the Sparks Indian Colony came to visit with our Whitehead 4th graders. They taught us all about the local Paiute tribe, their history and dress. We even got to see a dance to music. What a great way to enhance our 4th grade studies about Nevada history.
