Eagle Scout donates safety buckets to JWES

Local Eagle Scout, Dakota, choose Whitehead ES as the recipient of his Eagle Scout project. Dakota created Code Red Emergency buckets for each classroom at our school.

If our teachers and students ended up in a lockdown these buckets could be openned and inside are items such as snacks, water, flashlight with batteries etc.

In order to complete this project, Dakota raised the funds to purchase all of the needed items for each bucket. He raised $150 more than was needed, so he chose to donate a check for $150 to Whitehead ES so that we can replenish any of the buckets or the items in them as needed.
We are so grateful that Dakota thought of us in completing his Eagle Scout project and we congratulate him on his accomplishment.

Flu shot & TDap clinic comes to Whitehead

Hundreds of Whitehead students and staff got their flu shot or flu mist in our school library at our annual School Shot Clinic.
All 6th graders will need a TDap shot before entering middle school, so many of our families took advantage of this opportunity to get the TDap shot for their child.

After students get their shot they sit with adult supervision in the library and enjoy a candy cane. Somehow the candy cane helps the shot pain go away !

JWES part of the World Record

Ms.Anderson the JWES music teacher, along with our 6th grade choir students, lead our school family in singing "Home Means Nevada". Our school joined in with the state wide sing along and became part of a World Record.

Reno Channel 2 News reports:
"A Las Vegas-based company says Nevada has set the world record for the “Most People Singing A State Song at Once” with 45,553 Nevadans participating.

Last month's #NevadaSings event was made possible through a sponsorship from Sempra U.S. Gas & Power for the Nevada 150 Commission.

Nevadans entered their video or photo proof singing with co-workers, friends, family, schools and businesses at more than 500 locations. RecordSetter, a Las Vegas-based company, established and verified the record.

Fun Family Time at The Bighorns game

Miss Keane hanging out with Bruno and thanking him for giving our school family 500 tickets to the game. A big thank you also to Country Financial for funding these tickets and for giving out mini basketballs to the kids at the game.

Students hanging with the Bighorns cheerleaders!

The halftime show included our students, wether it be wearing a Bighorns uniform or filling a shirt with balloons, our kids represented our school with great fun.

Our teachers got to hang out with their students and cheer on the Bighorns.

Students also caught free noise makers, t-shirts and food coupons. Lots of great give aways for our families.

Students had lots of fun and ended the night getting a chance to make a shot out on the basketball court.

Other tried the blow up obstacle course.

Lots of fun for everyone ! Go Bighorns !

Reed Buddy Program begins at Whitehead

Reed HS students who are part of the National Honor Society have volunteered their Friday afternoons each week to come to Whitehead and buddy up with our elementary students.

Reed buddies work one on one to listen to a child read or help him work on math.

Reed buddies work in 15 minute time block.

Reed buddies main goal is to spend time learning and talking with our students. We know with relationships come incredible learning for all.
