January/ February Student of the Month

2 students from each homeroom are chosen as Student of the Month. These students are also treated to a pizza lunch by our PFA. Way to show off your Whale Behaviors  !!

Alice in Wonderland comes to Whitehead

Our 5th/6th students spent Valentine's Day in Alice in Wonderland style. 

The Queen of Hearts and the Mad Hatter lead the way into the rabbit hole and through the day.

At the Queen of Heart's party you could play a game of chess, while wearing your beautiful hat.

Or a game of cards in your tiara, of course .

Granite Construction supports Whitehead student readers

          Granite Bucks Raffle winners 

Whitehead students earned "Granite bucks" throughout the first semester for the amount of time they spent reading at home. This week they each got to shop at the Granite Store here in school. Students got to use their bucks to buy items such as pencils, notebooks, balls, cars, dinosaurs, silly bands, stickers and t-shirts. Thank you to all of our adult volunteers who help our student readers make their Granite store purchases. There will be another Granite Store at the end of the 2nd semester. so encourage your child to read every day at home.

The prizes start at a 1 and 2 buck price level and go up to 26 bucks. So no matter how bucks a student earns there is always something fun to buy.

Celebrating Friendship on Valentine's Day

Friendship, exchanging valentines, arts and crafts were on the lesson plans for today in our Whitehead classrooms. 

Whitehead Runners receive Kids in Motion Grant

Congratulations to the Whitehead students who ran this past October in the Run for Education at Scheel's. Our school was awarded one of the Kids in Motion grants for $1,143.00. This grant is given to the schools based on the number of student runners. Thanks to the Education Alliance of Washoe County for putting on the biggest running event in a Northern NV, and it's all for our kids. 

Way to run Whales ! This grant money will go towards purchasing playground equipment for our physical education classes and for the recess playground.

SAVE THE DATE : Next years Run for Education is already scheduled for Sunday, October 26, 2014.

Whitehead students in DRV-SAFE commercials

16 Whitehead students worked with Trooper Chuck Allen , Fox 11 television, NV Safe Routes to Schools and the DRV SFE campaign for over 3 hours to put together commercial spots that are now airing daily on Chanel 11 television. Our students are teaching the Washoe County community with reminders about seatbelt safety and pedestrian safety. Great work !

JWES Pajama Sing Along

We ended 2013 with a great school family gathering! We had a sing along pajama party. This year we had some special guests visiting from The North Pole and lots of adult family members joining us. There wasn't an empty seat in the cafeteria. Our principal was even in footsie pajamas !! What a fun time filled with beautiful singing !
